A charming seaside town located in West Flanders, Ostend’s coastline is Belgium’s finest and the city is packed with great restaurants, bars and international cuisine. Being close to the sea, you’ll find an abundance of seafood, but you’ll find something to satisfy all tastes and appetites. Here are some of our favourite restaurants you have to visit on your trip to Ostend.
Start at Bar Del Mundo – In Leopold Hotel Ostend
Our in-house restaurant, Bar Del Mundo, is stylish, comfortable and offers a convenient dining solution to guests and visitors alike. With a mixture of delicious Italian food, traditional desserts and the finest Starbucks coffee, we are a perfect place for a spot of lunch with friends or a bite to eat before heading out to explore. The bar menu is ideal for lovers of a nightcap.
Belle Du Jour – 5-minute walk
If you love keeping up with the latest food trends, trying experimental dishes and leaving your tastebuds in the hands of talented chefs, Belle Du Jour is a great place to start. Offering far more than just the traditional fish and shrimp, this super cool bistro serves bio-food and seasonal dishes with a flair. The long table in the middle of the restaurant is ideal for groups of friends or family who love great food and great wine.
Koekoek – 7 minute walk
Koekoek is a unique tavern-style restaurant which is reminiscent of times gone by. A bar first and foremost, you’ll find a huge selection of local and international beers served in giant pints or tankards. The food menu consists solely of roasted chicken, accompanied by bread, apple compote and mayo, eaten with your hands (they don’t have cutlery). It’s a delicious must-do experience in Ostend.
Histoires d’O – 7-minute walk
If there were three words to describe Histoires d’O, they would be hip, vintage and inspiring. You’ll find plenty of young folk with a passion for the old-fashioned enjoying the modern and comfortable atmosphere and décor. It serves mainly as a tapas bar with colourful, delicious small plates. They also serve awesome burgers, hotdogs and sushi so there is a little of something for everyone. Enjoy your meal on the beautiful terrace overlooking the ocean.
Expo & Kafie – 7-minute walk
There is nothing quite like word of mouth to draw a crowd and Expo & Kafie is a perfect example. Holding the number one spot on Trip Advisor for years running, the small but very cosy café is decorated well and has a warm atmosphere throughout. They specialise in breakfast, brunch and lunch and close for dinner so plan your day accordingly! Start with a “basic breakfast” and upgrade as you wish with some of their delicious additions. Don’t forget to order some of their excellent coffee.
Galerij Beausite – 9-minute walk
Art and culinary talent go hand in hand in hand in Galerij Beausite creating a great atmosphere and a visual delight. They pride themselves on using ’pure flavours’ to create fresh, wholesome dishes that are sure to wow your tastebuds. Enjoy a meal in the protected Art Deco building ‘Residence BeauSite’ on the newly constructed Ostend dike with stunning views of the North Sea. Make sure to try the langoustines and shrimp risotto – you won’t regret it!
Cafe Botteltje – 9 minute walk
Established and trading as a pub, Cafe Botteltje has a huge selection of beers, wines and gin but also has a surprisingly good food menu. Described as one of the cosiest dining spots in Ostend, an enormous fireplace lights up the wooden tables and dark-painted walls. The menu, which includes delicious baked potatoes with smoked salmon and shrimps, a cod fillet with a La Trappe sauce or Liège meatballs with fries is the ultimate in Flemish comfort food.
